Nadi

There are three different types of channels or rivers in the body thru which the life-force and nourishment travels thru the body. These are known as the Nadi’s, and they control certain vital movements like the windpipe which is a channel for flow of air. Other functions are not visible to the naked eye.

Of Twenty Seven Nakshatra’s, nine nakshatra’s are grouped in each nadi. The three names of Nadi’s are Adi or Adya Nadi, Madhya Nadi and Antya Nadi. Quite naturally the Adi or Adya Nadi refers to the channel which travels from bottom towards the head. The Antya Nadi is one which travels in opposite direction, that is, from head towards bottom. The central route is known as Madhya Nadi which is bidirectional in nature.

Adi Nadi: Also known as the Pingla Nadi, it is ruled by Sun and of the Trinities, it is ruled by Brahma. Of the three humors, it is related to the Vaata. Nine Nakshatra’s – Ashwini, Ardra, Punarvasu, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Jyeshtha, Mula, Satabhishaja, and Purva Bhadrapada are ruled by this Nadi.

Madhya Nadi: Also known as the Sushmana Nadi, it is ruled by Fire, of the Trinities, it is ruled by Vishnu. Of the three humors, it is related to Pitta. Nine Nakshatra’s – Bharni, Mrigshira, Pushya, Purva Phalguni, Chitra, Anuradha, Purva Shada, Dhanishta, and Uttara Bhadrapada are ruled by this Nadi.

Antya Nadi: Also known as the Ida Nadi, it is ruled by Moon, of the Trinities, it is ruled by Rudra. Of the three humors, it is related to Kapha. Nine Nakshatra’s – Krittika, Rohini, Ashlesha, Magha, Swati, Vishakha, Uttara Shada, Shravana, and Revati are ruled by this Nadi.

The flow of breath shows the dominant nadi at any given point of time. When the right nostril active, Pingla Nadi is active. When left nostril is active, Ida nadi is active. When both nostrils are active, Sushmana Nadi is active.

Naga Nadi Dosha: Naga Nadi dosha is caused by a flaw when couples have their Janma Nakshatra indicating same Nadi. Husband and wife are considered as ardhangi, the better half of the system. If Nadi is a breath (explained above) then two dis-similar Nadi’s balance each other. If, however, both Nadi’s are same, it causes elongation of one Nadi in the couple.

  1. If both male and female has same Nadi, as in Madhya Nadi, it leads to perpetual desire to space between them. They tend to drift apart. Person having Madhya Nadi feels himself/herself as complete and has no need for the other. A control battle ensues.
  2. If both male and female has Adi nadi, the male dominates over the other.
  3. If both male and female has Antya Nadi, the female dominates over the male.

The real problem of Naga Nadi dosha is in progeny where the couple maybe incapable of having children for various reasons and even if they do, there is danger to some children – daughters for Adi Nadi, Sons for Antya Nadi and both Sons and Daughters for Madhya Nadi couples.
